What would your perfect day look like? What would you choose to do? Yesterday was my birthday and it got me to thinking about how to spend the perfect day.
First–Companions I’d love to have the whole family to share the perfect day, but since they are widely scattered I’m happy to spend the day with my best fellow, my husband.

Second–Food Dick cooked up a storm and fulfilled the next requirement for the perfect day, delicious food! He baked beef tenderloin (rubbed with olive oil, crushed garlic, rosemary and salt and pepper) with roasted potatoes and grilled squash, mushrooms, and onions in teriyaki sauce. We both succumbed to a wonderful food coma afterwards.

When we recovered from the food coma we had dessert later in the afternoon. Tiramisu was courtesy of Hy-Vee Grocery Store and it was delicious.
Third–Choose Your Thing. The possibilities are endless! Read a book, take a hike, gaze at your navel, go shopping, bake something luscious, listen to music, research something new, or as a friend suggested, do something outrageous. I’m working on that one. On my perfect day I would order perfect weather so I could do something outside–go swimming or read on the patio. Ninety-nine degree heat has interfered with this plan so I’ll lay on a blanket and watch the clouds on another day!

Fourth–Special Entertainment. Again, anything goes. One of my wildest dreams would be to rev up the time machine and travel back to 1990 and attend the Three Tenors at the World Cup Concert in Rome. Travel to the concert would be hassle free as I would arrive on a magic carpet (or Uber) and be escorted to the front row for the best seat in the house. And probably meet the tenors afterward, too.
Since that’s not happening, our entertainment this week (I’ve been known to stretch my birthday into a week long celebration) will be Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. A step down from the Three Tenors? Well, yes, but I am curious to see what 80-year-old Harrison Ford is up to. Go Seniors!

We go to the movies about once a year so the big screen, big sound and big popcorn are noteworthy. I’ll let you know how it goes. And even though we can’t attend the concert in Rome, we are blessed to have recordings of the Three Tenors. Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajE5g2mL504. I just listened to O Sole Mio. Made my heart happy.
Drop me a line and tell me one thing about your perfect day. I’d love to hear from you. Being realistic we know the perfect day is a rare thing. But every day can have perfect moments. I wish that for you. Until next time . . .
Our son has been after me to buy that 1955 Jaguar XK-150 that I’ve been talking about for 50 years. Now that it’s a possibility, I can neither get into one of those, or more importantly…out. So, my perfect day would be one where all of those things were possible.
Mobility! It can be a real bummer. One of the challenges in the exercise class at the community center is getting up from the floor without using your hands. Ye gads. I went online to look up your dream car and it’s quite the classic to say the least. You chose well.
Hi, Jane
Happy Birthday 🎉 🎂
Have you seen the concert sung by the 3 sons of the famous tenors? That would be delightful to hear.
Glad you had such a wonderful chef for the big day. And HyVee always comes through with the sweet treats.
My big day would be sitting on my yacht in Monaco watching the F1 race and eating smoked oysters and drinking French wine.
Dream on.
Well, I hope to see you at the Class Reunion. Will you sign my copy of your book for me?
Take care of yourself. Have a great 4th.
Rick
Hi Rick,
Thank you for the birthday greetings and for reading my blog. It’s appreciated. You have an exceptional Perfect Day–Monaco, race cars, etc. So James Bond! I caught up on your email from Memorial Day and appreciate what your riders group does setting out flags. That seems to become more important as the years go by. Sadly I’m going to miss our reunion in September. We have the chance for a Rhine River Cruise which conflicts with the timing and we thought it’s now or never for that opportunity. I will make it to Ames, just don’t know when. Karen wants to go sometime to finish spreading Tom’s ashes and I will go with her. I had hoped it might be in August but now it’s looking less possible. Whenever it happens I will let you know and hope we can get together AND I would love to sign your book :). I will miss seeing everyone in September.
Take care and be well 🙂
Jane
P.S. Hadn’t heard about the sons of the three tenors. Thanks for the tip–will have to check them out!
