Dinner with the Author

February 28, 2020 By Jane Perry Leave a Comment

Candle light, conversation, and Italian food highlighted Dinner with the Author on Thursday evening, February, 27 at The Green Door Book Store and Gift Shoppe in Overland Park. Hosted by owner Christin Young, guests enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Personal Chef Michele Coakley, owner of Exquisite Eats, and presented beautifully by Good Stuff China.

We shared family immigrant stories, one about a youngster at the turn of the century left to fend entirely by himself in America, another about a young man speaking no English looking for work in New York City in the 1970’s. While these stories happened to be about Italians, we realize we are all immigrants from all countries. Our families arrived at different times under different circumstances, but we are bound together by their shared dream of opportunity, self determination, and a better life for those who come after them. People with dreams like Marcello and Luisa.

Look to your own families and learn your own stories. Write them down, share them, and save them.
