What would you do to keep a promise?
Inspired by true events, Marcello’s Promise is the heartfelt journey of a loving husband’s promise to his wife for the American dream.
In 1915, Marcello Corsi risks everything and leaves Italy, promising to forge a new life for his family in America. After three arduous years of separation, Marcello sends for his wife and son who join him in Cumberland, Wyoming, a mining town of immigrants operated by Union Pacific Coal Company.
Filled with determination, Marcello and Luisa face the harsh life in the frontier town―deadly blizzards, brawling cowboys who drift through the West unchecked, and the constant dangers of coalmining. They live through times of humor and heartbreak with their immigrant neighbors from Europe and Russia. When the future of the mine is uncertain, Marcello ignores Luisa’s pleas and stubbornly joins a risky alliance with his brothers, certain it’s his last chance to secure his promise to her.
Against the backdrop of Prohibition and bootlegging, the climactic events race on a collision course that threatens Marcello, his family and the dream he so desperately wants.
Reviews:
“What stands out is this couple’s formidable courage in the face of challenges and adversity. Accidents, illness and change test this family’s closeness and endurance. Immigration is not for the faint of heart, and Perry comprehensively depicts the voluminous ups and downs for foreigners settling in America.”
— Historical Novel Society“Enjoyable and beautifully written story, with great character development and vivid descriptions of the various places author’s grandparents lived. Thank you for writing such a delightful story!”

— Green Gables Book Review“The reader easily is drawn into the story and its drama. Perry’s extensive research for historical accuracy gives the story an authentic tone. I applaud the author on writing such a wonderful story that truly comes from the heart to honor her ancestors. You know it’s a good solid story when you wish it wouldn’t end.”
